The shot put as we know it today originated in Scotland. The shot was the British Navy term for a heavy cannonball, generally weighing about 16 pounds.

Indoor/Winter Track

End of November through mid-March
The competition moves indoors for the winter. Practices are just as rigorous as the other seasons and the athletes learn to compete despite the “cold”. Athletes will have the opportunity to compete at various venues in the region. The season culminates at an Indoor National Competition.

  • Practices: Mondays, Thursdays, and some Saturdays
  • Competitions: Typically in the PA-NJ-NY regions. Occasionally more than one day on the weekends

Cross Country Season

Last week of August through last week of November
The cross country season starts in the fall of each year. Runners will run across a natural terrain and cover distances between 2K to 5K with younger athletes running the shorter distances. Athletes who enjoy running mid to full distance will enjoy the added challenge of covering various surfaces including hills.
